Lucille Bailey, an eighteen year old psychic searching for a lost partner.
Magic, a constant part of this universe, has evolved into a commodity. While magical gifts are largely passed down through blood, abilities similar to those granted by magic have been reproduced through genetic manipulation and implants. A virus strain that produces randomized abilities in those infected with it was accidentally released into the population of a once-prospering metropolis. The infected were, for the most part, collected and numbered by the scientific sector of the government to monitor the progression and other effects of the virus.
Those who chose to not work with the government were assigned 'handlers', who not only made sure that their charges were not causing havoc with their abilities, but also to ensure that they were adjusting well to their new status as the newest 'powered' population. Most of the infected managed to return to their lives, though with many changes.
Lucille was not one of them.
Her handler, Reynard, joined her when she was fifteen and he was twenty. Due to his inexperience and her upbringing, she encouraged him to be lax in his care, and by the time she turned eighteen, they had begun a path of destruction in the criminal underworld. Lucille's abilities, which were among the most destructive not only granted by the virus but overall, combined with her ambition and single-minded focus, led her (and Reynard, by extension) to become self-serving, occasionally crime-fighting vigilantes.
However, as time went on and they made more and more enemies, it was Reynard to got into trouble. Lucille's abilities kept her largely safe, and though Reynard was by then capable, he disappeared one night while they were spending some time in different parts of town. Lucille, who was by then depending on Reynard as her (faulty) moral compass, voice of reason, and her one positive constant in life, decided to find him by any means necessary.
